ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

These programs provide students in grades 3-8 with the opportunity to explore further areas of particular interest.

Art: students focus on a particular artist or period of art, create their own work of art and then display the finished works. Program runs 5-6 weeks.

Mad Science Crazy Chemworks: Students in 2 sessions, K-2 and grades 3-8, learn about labs, pH, atoms and experiment with dry ice, glow in the dark items and slime.

Mad Science NASA Future Space Explorers: Students in 2 sessions, K-2 and grades 3-8, explore the solar system, create a lunar eclipse, stucdy stars, meteors, rocket science, space travel and space technology.

Mad Science Rockets and Gliders:  Students in grades 3-8 build their own gliders, stunt planes and 4 different air pressure rockets to launch and study.

Mother Goose Rhymes:  Students in grades K-3 bring the words and characters of Mother Goose rhymes to life throught ponics, vocabulary, writing, art, music and creative thinking.

Reading: students in grades 3-5 read a selected book and explore the characters in depth through discussion and drama. The emphasis here is making reading come to life. Older students read and discuss books and develop their creative writing talents. Program runs 5-6 weeks

Spanish: participants explore Iberian and Latin American culture and history while also improving their Spanish fluency. Music, poetry and drama as well as computers are used to engage and inform.  Programs for Beginner and Intermediate runs entire school year.

EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS

St Theresa School offers several programs to meet the diverse needs and interests of the students and parents. They include cultural, academic, and sports options.

After School Care/ Homework Group: supervised child care available daily from dismissal until 6pm. Students Pre-K – 8th are encouraged to complete their homework assignments and then participate in group games, outdoor play (weather permitting) or computer activities.

Band: Grades 4-8 can participate in weekly band STS practice at Briarcliff Music School.

Community Service: All Grades can participate year round in hands-on activities for the Brarcliff/Ossining community.

Chess Club: Grades 2-5 and 6-8 meet from 2:45- 3:45 on alternate Fridays. This program is led by a chess master who has competed and prepared other children for competitive play. All skill levels welcomed.

Drama Club:  Grades 5-8 produce and act in a Spring play for the STS community.

 

Junior Choir: Provides musical leadership at 9 a.m. Mass from mid-October to Easter Sunday. Grades 3-8 welcome. Rehearsals are Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. (Attendance at one rehearsal per week is expected). Basic requirements include the ability to sing in tune, responsible attendance, and a love of singing.  There are no auditions. First rehearsals will be held week of Sept. 8.

Jounalism/School Newspaper: Students in grades 5-9 learn all different aspects of producing a newspaper and have specific roles according to their interests such as editorial staff, reporters, etc.  A newspaper is published 3-4 times a year.

Piano Lessons: Students can enroll in private lessons. Available on a limited basis

Private Tutorials: Individual teachers with specific subject matter expertise are available for individualized tutorials (Math, reading and language arts) to assist children who may require more support or to prepare for standardized tests.

Scouting: Grades K-8 Boy and Girl Scouts inluding Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub or Boy Scouts.

Sports: Boys and girls basketball available for grades 3-8. Girls grades 5-8  volleyball. For more information about teams and schedules, see the sports page.

Teaches Basketball Camp:  Grades K-8 can work on skill development. Offered in the Fall and Spring.

                          IN SCHOOL SPECIAL ACTIVIES

DARE Program: Grade 5 participate with local police to learn the dangers of drinking and drugs.

Fireman Appreciation Day: Students meet local firement, learn about fire safety and explore fire trucks.

International Day: Students enjoy a fun filled, ethnic smorgasbord of artifacts, customes & food organized by STS parents

Science Fair: Grades 6-8 create interactive science displays for Catholic Schools Week.

Talent Show:  Students show off their various talents in the annual show.
